WASHINGTON, DC – January 17, 2006 –
The Government Information Technology
Executive Council (GITEC) announced today that it will award
continuing education units (CEUs) to government attendees at its
annual Information Processing Interagency Conference (IPIC 2006) –
the premier forum for government leaders, industry, and academia to
share ideas, challenges, and successes about Information Technology
(IT).
GITEC officials launched the new initiative to enhance the
educational value of IPIC, to be held March 12 to March 16 in
Orlando, Fla., and to broaden learning opportunities for Federal IT
professionals. Awarding of CEUs is a widely recognized method of
quantifying participation in an organized continuing education
experience under responsible sponsorship, capable direction, and
qualified instruction. One CEU is defined as 10 contact hours of
time spent in such an educational experience, according to the
American Society for Training & Development. CEUs are especially
important to employees who seek to maintain their professional
credentials in fields such as IT and project management.
“In keeping with this year’s conference theme, ‘Taking IT to New
Heights,’ we have expanded IPIC’s strong offerings to include a new
educational component,” said Linda Cureton, GITEC president. “At the
only government IT conference for Federal employees, by Federal
employees, Federal IT professionals will be able to enhance their
skills sets and bring new knowledge back to their agencies.”
Government attendees will be able to earn CEUs for participating in
conference sessions addressing a wide variety of topics, including:
• Personnel and information management
• Information management and Hurricane Katrina
• Medical records and data sharing
• The future of medical technologies
• Emerging technologies
• IPv6
• Technology and privacy
• RFID
• Wireless networks
• Data warehousing
The IPIC 2006 Conference will be held at the Renaissance Orlando
Resort at SeaWorld. Proceeds from the conference’s numerous charity
events will benefit the Paralyzed Veterans of America and Ward 57.
Conference reservations may be made online at
