GITEC Welcomes Rick Miller

The GITEC Board of Directors would like to welcome Rick Miller, Vice President, US Federal of Micromuse Inc. to the GITEC Executive Advisory Committee.


Rick Miller currently leads the federal business development and strategy for Micromuse, the leading provider of business and service assurance software solutions.  Miller's background includes 25 years of information systems and management experience, during which time he held such leadership roles as Chief Information Officer, program manager, Senior Vice President, and President of his own consulting company. Micromuse’s Netcool® software solution monitors end-end services/processes and provides different levels of management with appropriate business intelligence via web-based dashboard views.  Such business intelligence allows organizations to respond to problems quickly, streamline workflow processes and improve business uptime.  Previously focused on the commercial marketplace, some of Micromuse’s key customers include AT&T, BT, Cable & Wireless, Charles Schwab, Deutsche Telekom, Digex, EarthLink, GE Appliances, ITC^DeltaCom, J.P. Morgan Chase, T-Mobile and Verizon.  Miller is responsible for building a team to grow Micromuse’s presence in the federal marketplace.

 

Prior to Micromuse, Miller served as the U.S. Education Department's principal Deputy Chief Information Officer from 2000-2003.  He was responsible for the information systems architecture, network and telecommunications design and operations, configuration management and Information Technology/Information Management contract management.  He joined the Department from Electrolux, where he served as Senior Vice President for North American IT operations.  Prior to Electrolux he served in various capacities as vice president of IT Operations for Simione Central, program manager for Ryder Integrated Logistics, and was President of his own consulting firm, Ebiz Consulting.  Miller's other accomplishments include managing the development of  multiple IT systems for the Department of Defense as an account manager for EDS, serving as one of the first CIO’s for the Chief of Naval Operations, and completing a distinguished navy career as a naval flight officer.  In 2002, Miller was awarded the FCW ‘Fed 100’ award as one of the top 100 federal/commercial leaders contributing to the federal government’s success.  Miller is a 1974 graduate of the Naval Academy and earned a Masters of  Information Systems degree from the Naval Postgraduate School in 1991.  Married 28 years to his wife, Meg, they have 2 daughters Katie and Brynne, in college and high school respectively.
